Four signs you are in, ketosis

Being in ketosis can be exciting times especially if this is your first time. Being in ketosis allows your body to produce ketones and suppresses the products of insulin which is the main hormone that makes you overweight.

By being in ketosis, your body is burning body fat as its main source of energy which is great if you aim to lose weight as your body is not craving sugar as it used to.
While you are in ketosis, your hormones are balanced especially your hunger hormone es which keeps you from eating more food as your insulin levels are low.

The keto diet is quite easy to follow, and there are mistakes you can make but what people want to know is how you can be sure that you are in ketosis.

1.    Bad breath

On a low carb diet such as the keto diet, your liver uses body fat as a source of energy which produces ketones. There are three types of ketones which have a distinct fruity smell. However, by having a large number of acetone ketones, your breath will start to smell quite different.

Your breath is impacted by allowing ammonia to increase which helps release ketones and getting rid of the bad breath depends on the cause.

Here are a few steps you can take to get out of ketosis.

•    The quickest way to get rid of bad breath is to come out of ketosis.
•    Sip on water throughout the day.
•    Lower the amount of protein you are eating.
•    Chew calorie-free gum
Those are just a few ways. Be patient, and the keto breath will pass.
2.    Weight loss

During your first week of ketosis, you can expect to lose up to 10lbs of weight. This is mostly to do with excess water weight. Your glycogen stores will be depleted in no time.

The next couple of weeks your body will begin to adapt to the diet, you will go through keto-flu and will be a fat burning machine.

Test your ketones level at least once a week to remain in ketosis. Don’t measure your weight but instead, measure your fat and see it melt off.

3.    Insomnia

Not getting enough sleep is linked with not losing weight and if you think that around six hours of sleep is enough, then you are wrong.

There are many reasons why you cannot fall asleep due to stress, anxiety, depression, illness but these are all curable with medication.

As your body is exploding with energy from ketones, you are struggling to get any sleep. This usually comes with keto-flu but how do you fix insomnia?

Here are a few ways you can cure insomnia:

•    Drink a cup of bone broth before bed for those extra electrolytes.
•    Dim lights in your house and avoid any blue light like a computer or tv.
•    Ensure you are warm and the room is fresh and cool.
•    Exercise once you wake up and not before you go to bed.

There are many more signs to tell if you are in ketosis, but these are the most common ones. A quick test you can do is by buying a ketone blood meter but if you want to save $40, use the tips above.
